At The Partridge Retreat we love supporting local businesses and the community, so we always encourage guests to explore the local area and discover our fabulous countryside that is full of so many hidden gems and things to do in our glorious little corner of Essex.
We are so lucky to live on the Sunshine Coast, which provides a wonderful micro climate for wine making. Thorrington Mill Vineyard is just a few miles from us, heading towards Colchester. They are a family run business providing award-winning wines. They have a list of events during the year along with pizza evenings and in the summer it’s a great place to soak up the summer rays while enjoying a glass of wine and relaxing in the beautiful vineyards.
Just along the coast you will come to the famous port of Harwich. After taking a walk along the beach and watching the ships come into port, there is no better place to stop for lunch or supper than The Pier. Grab a gin and tonic from the Gin Library, or maybe a cocktail or two, and watch the world go by as you browse the extensive menu. This really is a firm favourite for lovers of great food and drink and one of our personal favourites that we would always recommend to all our guests.
Keeping with the nautical theme, the town of Brightlingsea is a bit closer to home. Every year this quaint coastal town plays host to the Brightlingsea Regatta. This year it will be hosted on July 6th and 7th (2024). The regatta celebrates the maritime heritage of the small seaside town and promises a range of exciting activities for all ages on and off the water – such as sailing competitions, family activities, live entertainment and local food and drink. It’s well worth a visit to enjoy the thrill of the weekend and on the Saturday evening there is a spectacular firework display lighting up the night sky, a memorable highlight of the year.
